RIDGELAND – Jones College's quest for an NJCAA Region 23 Championship and automatic bid to the national tournament came up short Friday night at Freedom Ridge Park, 3-0, to third-ranked Northwest.
The Rangers, 17-1-1, the defending national champions, won their third straight region championship.
Jones, 12-5-2, finishes as region runner-up and will now have to await its fate for a possible at-large bid. The Bobcats are 5-4-1 against ranked teams this year and have been in the NJCAA Top 10 rankings all season.
Caroline Perkins broke a stalemate in the 21st minute to give NWCC a 1-0 lead.
The Rangers added two more goals in the 49th and 61st minutes to pull away for a 3-0 win.
Jennifer Huerzeler and Northwest's Ann Marie Barton had seven saves each.
The NJCAA DII Women's Soccer Championship bracket, at-large selections and tournament seeding will be announced on Tuesday, November 11 at 4:30 CST via the NJCAA Network and NJCAA Soccer X account.
