WICHITA, Kan. – For the fourth time in five NJCAA Tournament appearances, Jones College has advanced out of pool play and into the women's soccer national semifinals.
Jones topped UA Cossatot, 3-0, on Monday and handed top-ranked Johnson County its first loss of the year Tuesday, 4-3, in overtime.
The Bobcats will face defending NJCAA National Champion Northwest Mississippi at 10 a.m. Thursday, one of three MACCC teams left. The other national semifinal pits the Holmes/Gulf Coast winner against Heartland.
Scoreless into the half on Monday,
Sherline King scored 49 seconds into the second that would prove to be the game-winner.
Jameyah Hubbard added a 69th minute goal and
Katie Hennington an 80th minute goal to round out the scoring.
Jones out-shot UA Cossatot 13-1.
Playing for a spot in the semifinals Tuesday morning, Jones led 2-0 at half, allowed three second-half goals, and then found the game-winner in overtime to advance through.
King scored all four Bobcat goals, moving past Kelly Stubbington's 49 for first in program history with 53 career goals.
Scoreless the first 26 minutes, King scored in the 27th and 41st minutes.
But Johnson County would come storming back with three unanswered goals to lead 3-2 with 12 minutes to play.
King's free kick in the 83th minute got Jones level at 3-3 to send the match into extra time.
King was the hero in the extra period,
scoring with 1:04 left in the first overtime to send Jones past JCCC.
The Cavaliers end the year 21-1-1.
