PERKINSTON – Second half goals from
Teryn Davis and
Stanley Georgiou, both their firsts of their Bobcat careers, lifted No. 7 Jones over Gulf Coast, 2-0, Tuesday night at Barry Thrash Field.
Jones pushed its unbeaten streak out to 10 matches in improving to 9-2-1, 4-0-1 in the MACCC. MGCCC is now 7-5, 3-3.
The Bobcats swept the season series and are 5-1-2 their last eight against the rivals.
Scoreless into the 65th minute, it was Davis' goal from two yards away that broke the stalemate.
Dylan Dykes' header was saved right to the foot of Davis who drilled it home top shelf.
MGCCC had just two shots on goal, both saved, but scared the posts on a handful of occasions.
In the 86th minute, Jones' eighth corner kick from
Mario Novaku's left foot found the head of
Braden Buchanan who then headed it to Georgiou for a beautiful double-assisted second goal to put the match away.
Jones outshot MGCCC 15-6.
Brax Rials and
Joshua Goodwin each had a save in the combined shutout.
Jones welcomes Holmes on Friday, Oct. 10 at 5:45 p.m. The women follow at 8 p.m.
