ELLISVILLE – It's been a one-sided matchup against Holmes since 2013 and No. 7 Jones once again came out on top Friday night, 2-1, to run its win streak to 10 over the Bulldogs.
Jones pushed its unbeaten streak to 11 matches in moving to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in MACCC play. Holmes fell to 6-8-1, 0-6-1.
First half goals from
Lucas Ekfeldt and
Matt Reed gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead at half.
Reed has at least one point in 11 of 13 matches played this season.
If not for an outstanding 10-save effort in net from Bulldog keeper Jaydon Smith, the match could've easily gotten away from Holmes.
But Smith helped the Bulldogs hang around in the second half and Hunter Freeny's goal with 2:11 to play cut the deficit to 2-1.
Jones, however, was able to salt away the final two minutes deep in Bulldog territory.
The Bobcats outshot the Bulldogs 22-8, including 12-4 on goal. Jones also drew 16 corner kicks, constantly putting pressure on Holmes.
Jones travels to Southwest on Tuesday, Oct. 14 for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Summit.
