Defense forces three turnovers in seventh-straight win over Co-Lin

ELLISVILLE – Twelfth-ranked Jones College forced three turnovers and defeated No. 9 Copiah-Lincoln 21-12 here Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.
 
It was the seventh straight win for the Bobcats over the Wolves.
 
The victory improves the Bobcats to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the MACCC South Division. Co-Lin drops to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in division play.
 
The Bobcats recovered an onside kick to start the game and took over at the Co-Lin 40-yard line. Twelve plays later, Gerald Modest Jr. (Miami, Fla.) scored on a 1-yard run on fourth and goal. Christian Baglione's (Northwest Rankin) extra point made it 7-0.
 
Late in the first quarter, Jonathan Crain had a pass interception for the Wolves at his own 30. Co-Lin would then drive 70 yards in eight plays with Que Tillman scoring on a 3-yard run. The extra point failed and the Bobcats led 7-6 with 13:01 left in the first half. 
 
Midway through the second quarter, Jones had a 53-yard, three-play drive. Murphy connected with Keyes for a 53-yard strike and Baglione's conversion made it 14-6 with 7:43 left in the second quarter.
 
In the third quarter, Co-Lin went 37 yards in nine plays with Humberto Rosales booting a 35-yard field goal to end the drive. That made it 14-9 with 6:48 left in the period.
 
The Wolves got within 14-12 with just 5:50 left in the fourth quarter when Rosales made another 35-yard field goal to end a 64-yard, six-play drive. 
 
The Bobcats took the ensuing kickoff and were forced to punt. Edmiston punted it 48 yards and it was downed at the Wolves' 7-yard line with 2:58 left in the game. 
 
Co-Lin lost four yards on the next three plays and punted it back to Jones. Isaiah Roberts (Pompano Beach, Fla.) returned the kick 24 yards to the Co-Lin 21 with just 2:24 left to play.
 
Three plays later, Murphy hit Knight for a 17-yard scoring strike. Baglione's PAT ended the scoring with 2:11 left.

D.J. Cloyd (Columbia) led the Bobcat defense with eight tackles, Tyreke Snow (Newton) added seven and Josh Brown (Columbia) had six tackles. Isaiah Lindsey (West Jones) and Zechariah Parodi (Scott Central) had fumble recoveries and Chase Pinkston (Oak Grove) had a pass interception. Chance Barron (Mendenhall) and Jeremiah Tatum (Columbia) forced fumbles. 
 
Quarterback Blake Murphy (Plantation, Florida) completed 8-of-15 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Marlon Lindsey Jr. (West Jones) had three receptions for 25 yards, Harrison Knight (Foley, Ala.) had three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown and Shawn Keyes (West Jones) had a 53-yard touchdown. Cobey Craft (Taylorsville) rushed nine times for 34 yards. 
 
Punter Bart Edmiston Jr. (Ocean Springs) averaged 47.8 yards per kick on eight punts with five kicks going inside the 20-yard line.
 
The Bobcats had 196 yards of total offense. Co-Lin had 303 yards of total offense.
 
The Bobcats will play their final non-division game at 4-0 Holmes next week. Kickoff is at 6:30 on Sept. 26. Co-Lin hosts Southwest next week.
