Sawyer, Vinson throw combined no-hitter to help Jones sweep Southwest

SUMMIT – No. 6 Jones swept a pair of games at Southwest Wednesday afternoon, using a sixth-inning rally in the opener and getting a combined no-hitter from Jayden Sawyer and Meg Vinson to take the nightcap.

Jones extended its win streak to eight games and moved to 25-9, 12-2 in the MACCC. Southwest dropped to 12-14, 1-9 MACCC.

The Bobcats close out a six-game road swing Saturday at Northwest with a 1 p.m. first pitch.

Jones 3, Southwest 1

Kaleigh Steverson homered to put Jones on the board in the third but the Bobcats needed two late runs in the sixth to hold off the Bears in game one.

Presley Dease's RBI-single tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth for Southwest.

Emma Moore's sac fly plated Madelyn Chennault for the go-ahead run in the sixth and Emily Mizelle followed with an RBI-single to make it 3-1.

Mizelle finished 3-for-4 and both Steverson and Chennault had multiple hits.

Reanna Nieman (12-3) allowed five hits and no earned runs while punching out eight against two walks.

Jones 11, Southwest 0

A pair of three-run home runs by Sawyer and Mizelle led a 13-hit attack and Sawyer and Vinson combined for a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the circle.

Nine different Bobcats had a hit.

Mizelle's homer made it 4-0 in the third and she'd add a two-run double in the seventh to make it 7-0 before Sawyer's homer and Makynlie Jones' RBI-single capped the scoring at 11-0.

Moore added two hits and Steverson had two.

Sawyer got the win in 4.1 with six strikeouts. Vinson went the final 2.2 with four strikeouts.
