SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Bobcats continue to rake in the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series at Tyger River Park.
For a third straight day, Jones (49-8) had 14 hits and got its second straight complete game in the circle to defeat No. 2 Louisburg, 6-2, and advance in the tournament.
The Bobcats will face MACCC foe Copiah-Lincoln on Friday at 9 a.m. with a trip to the national championship at stake. The Lady Wolves have won four of five meetings this season.
Louisburg (62-4) suffered its first loss of the tournament and will play Parkland in an elimination game later tonight.
Jones pounced on the Canes early with three runs in the first.
After back-to-back outs to start the game,
Lauren Lindsey singled as five straight Bobcats reached.
Kathryn Smith singled to score two and
Tia'Rain Saunders singled home Smith to make it 3-0.
Louisburg got a run back on an RBI-single in the bottom half, but Jones immediately answered in the second after an
Elise Jackson triple and
Nia Luckett RBI-single.
Carly Lewis doubled to score Luckett to make it 5-1 Jones.
Meg Gatlin's RBI-single extended the Bobcat lead to 6-1 after three.
After allowing an RBI-single in the fourth, Luckett hung three straight zeroes to end the game.
Luckett improved to 15-3 in the circle in a complete game performance. She allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks for her 49th career win.
Zoey Jones was chased after 1.2 innings after allowing five runs. She fell to 30-2.
Eight Bobcats combined for 14 hits, led by Lewis and Saunders with three apiece. Gatlin and Lindsey added two.
