ELLISVILLE – The 10th-ranked Jones College Bobcats pounded out 29 hits in a sweep of Mississippi Gulf Coast here Wednesday at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia),
Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) and
Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) had three hits each as the Bobcats won the opener 14-5 in five innings. In game two,
Kathryn Smith (Luling, Louisiana) had a walk-off grand slam to clinch a 10-2, six-inning victory.
Jones is now 25-6 overall, 10-2 in the MACCC. The Bobcats host Southwest in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
MGCCC, 23-15 and 6-6, visits East Mississippi on Saturday.
Jones 14, Gulf Coast 5 (5 inn.)
Lewis had an RBI single in the first inning and Lindsey and Lewis had RBI singles in the third as Jones jumped to a 5-0 lead after three.
After the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the fourth, Jones sent 15 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 14-1 lead.
Meg Gatlin (Parklane Academy) had a two-run single and Lindsey, Lewis,
Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian),
Elise Jackson (Purvis) and Luckett had RBI singles.
Gabby Hoffman (Florence) and Lindsey drove in runs with fielder's choice groundouts.
MGCCC's K.K. Agner hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth to end the scoring.
Luckett went 4.1 innings and got the win to improve to 7-2. She gave up four runs, four hits, walked four and struck out seven.
Meg Vinson (DeSoto Central) went the final .2 innings, walked two and allowed a hit.
Lewis doubled twice, singled and had three RBIs. Lindsey had three singles and three RBIs. Luckett had three singles with Gatlin getting a double and a single. Jackson had two singles,
Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central) added a double with Dixon getting a single.
Jett Harrell went the first 3.0 innings for Gulf Coast and got the loss, falling to 10-5. She allowed six runs (five earned), seven hits, walked one and struck out four.
Jones 10, Gulf Coast 2 (6 inn.)
Holly Craft (Raleigh) excelled in the circle in game two.
She went all 6.0 innings, allowed two runs, four hits, walked none and struck out nine to improve to 8-1.
Jones took a 2-0 lead in the first when Luckett and Gatlin singled. Gatlin was caught stealing at second base, but Luckett scored on the play. Lewis followed with an RBI single to right.
In the third, Smith singled and Hoffman followed with a two-run homer to center to make it 4-0.
The Bulldogs scored in the fourth when Agner singled and Kamryn LaFosse hit a two-run homer to center to make it 4-2.
Lewis led off the fifth with a single and scored on Craft's double to left-center to make it 5-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Jackson singled and Luckett reached on an error. After Gatlin lined out, Lindsey walked to load the bases. Lewis walked to force in a run and Smith followed with her ninth home run of the season, a grand slam over the center field wall to end the game.
Luckett doubled and singled twice, and Hoffman and Smith each homered and singled with Smith getting four RBIs. Lewis had two singles with Craft and Lindsey adding doubles. Gatlin had a single.
Harrell singled twice for the Bulldogs with LaFosse getting a home run.
Starter Kylie Burnette went 3.0 innings and took the loss, falling to 10-4. She allowed four run, nine hits and struck out one. Abby Vance went 2.1 innings, allowed four earned runs, four hits and struck out three.
