ELLISVILLE – No. 5 Jones College posted a pair of run-rule wins over East Mississippi here on a cold, windy Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
In the opener,
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) struck out 11 in four innings of work and the Bobcats hit three home runs in a 10-0, five-inning win. In game two, Jones sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning en route to another 10-0, five-inning decision.
Jones, 21-4 overall and 6-0 in the MACCC, has won 10 consecutive games. The Bobcats travel to No. 7 Copiah-Lincoln for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
EMCC, 7-19 and 4-2, visits Holmes on Tuesday.
Jones 10, East Mississippi 0 (5 inn)
Luckett and
Meg Vinson (DeSoto Central) struck out 13 of the 15 outs in the game. Luckett walked two, allowed three hits and improved her record to 6-1.
Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) smashed a two-run home run in the first inning.
Kathryn Smith (Luling, Louisiana) hit a two-run homer in the fourth and
Sadie Wells (Loranger, Louisiana) followed with a solo shot.
Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) doubled twice with
Gabby Hoffman (Florence) adding a single.
Sidney Argo singled twice for EMCC and Ki'arah Byrd tripled. Starter Laken Firth went 3.2 innings, allowed seven earned runs, struck out two, walked three and took the loss.
The Bobcats scored two runs each in the first, second and third innings and put up four runs in the fourth.
Jones 10, East Mississippi 0 (5 inn)
The big, seven run first inning for Jones – all with two outs – was highlighted by a bases-clearing, three-run double to right-center by
Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central).
A three-run home run over the right field wall by
Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian) in the second inning capped the scoring.
Dixon homered, singled and had four RBIs and Saunders doubled, singled and had three RBIs. Lindsey and
Elise Jackson (Purvis) each had two singles. Luckett, Lewis,
Arin Dale (DeSoto Central) and Hoffman added singles.
Starter
Holly Craft (Raleigh) went 2.0 innings and was credited with the win. She allowed no hits and struck out three as she upped her record to 8-1. Vinson pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Byrd singled for EMCC's only hit.
Carys Goodwin pitched all 4.0 innings and got the loss. She gave up 10 earned runs, 12 hits, walked one and struck out five.
