Kat Smith's seven RBIs keys No. 8 Bobcats

ELLISVILLEKathryn Smith had quite the game for the No. 8 Jones College Bobcats.
 
Smith homered twice, doubled twice and drove in seven runs to lead Jones to a 9-1, six inning victory over Meridian here Tuesday night at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
 
Earlier, Hanna Zeitz tossed a four-hit shutout as the Bobcats defeated Marion Military Institute (Alabama), 2-0.
 
The Bobcats, winners of eight straight, are 10-2 on the season and will head to Columbus, Georgia, to play five games in the NFCA Leadoff Classic March 3-4.

Zeitz walked none and struck out six as she improved to 5-1.
 
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) doubled to left with two outs. She was Jones' first baserunner of the game. Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) then reached on an infield hit to second base. Lindsey never stopped running and scored on the play.
 
Lindsey then gave Jones some insurance with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Kinley Bolton pitched 6.0 innings and took the loss. She allowed two runs, three hits, walked one and struck out six. Alex Erwin, BG Brasswell, Karlee Pierson and Jessica Cross had singles for MMI.
 
MMI (11-11) goes to Northwest Shoals (Alabama) on Saturday.

Smith got Jones going with a double in the second inning. She then scored on Gabby Hoffman's (Florence) double to make it 1-0.
 
In the third inning, Meg Gatlin (Parklane Academy) and Lindsey singled. Smith then crushed a three-run home run off the scoreboard over the left field fence to make it 4-0.
 
Jones added a run in the fourth when Hoffman reached on an error and scored on a double to right-center by Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central).
 
Lynnzie Kennedy homered for MCC's only hit in the fifth to make it 5-1.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Lindsey walked and Smith followed with a two-run home run to center to make it 7-1.
 
Jones ended the game in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) singled, Gatlin reached on a fielder's choice and Lindsey walked to load the bases. Smith then doubled off the fence in center to drive in two runs and end the game.
 
Luckett was exceptional in the circle, allowing one hit, walking one and striking out eight as she improved to 3-0.
 
Sara Gaylord pitched 5.2 innings and got the loss. She allowed nine hits, walked five and struck out one.
 
Earlier in the day, Meridian beat MMI 3-2 in eight innings. The Eagles, 5-9, go to Booneville Friday play No. 13 Kirkwood (Iowa) and No. 11 Northeast.
