TUCSON, Ariz. – The Bobcats have made history.
After making it to the national semifinals in now three of the last four tournaments, it was only a matter of time.
Jones defeated Johnson County (Kansas), 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Kino Sports Complex to claim the program's and MACCC's first-ever women's soccer national title.
"This has been a dream of mine as long as I can remember," 16th-year head coach
Dolores Deasley said. "We played four games in six days and it's remarkable what they've done. Just so proud of them."
It was the Bobcats' third straight clean sheet over a Top 10 opponent as they concluded the year 17-1-1 and tied a school record for wins.
Gemma Whitchurch broke through for Jones just 3:46 in for the would-be game-winner.
Celine Ottah, the Most Valuable Player at the 2023 championship, made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute with her fourth goal of the tournament.
Hilary Jaén capped the scoring in the 65th minute to close out a 3-0 Bobcat victory. She was named the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive Player.
Jona Hennings, the Most Valuable Defensive Player, posted her third clean sheet of the tournament and finished the year 15-1-1 with nine shutouts.
Jones outshot the Lady Cavaliers 8-4, including 7-0 on goal.
