ELLISVILLE – Pearl River scored three unanswered goals to rally for a 3-1 victory Friday night and hand No. 5 Jones its first loss in MACCC play since 2021.
The Wildcats, 4-4-3, won their fourth match of the year while dealing Jones, 9-2-2, its second defeat in 13 games.
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute after PRCC failed to clear the ball out of the box.
Taylor Richardson was in great position to take advantage of the miscue and played a ball to
Luke Dickson who headed it in for the goal.
PRCC got the equalizer eight minutes later on a counter attack.
Christopher Dommer played a ball in from the Wildcats' side of the field to a streaking Kristoff Graham who took it nearly 40 yards and scored the tying goal.
Graham pushed across the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later in near identical fashion, using a nice give from Joel Morales, making a long run and sidestepping
Joshua Goodwin for the goal and 2-1 Wildcat lead.
Jones had an opportunity to equalize in the 50th minute when
Taylor Richardson was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. But
Miguel Magagnin was denied by Noah Nymark.
Goodwin made a pair of key saves to keep it a one goal match in the 61st minute.
Two cards issued to
Andrew Kravette in the 63rd and 68th minutes had Jones down a man the final 22 minutes of the match.
Dickson just missed on a header with the Bobcats down a man to tie the match.
Barrett Breazeale delivered the dagger in the 75th minute on another Dommer assist.
The match was near deadlocked statistically with both teams finishing with 14 shots, both keepers stopping five shots and just two corners different. The teams combined for 32 fouls and seven yellow cards.
Jones will try and bounce back next Friday, Oct. 13 with a chance to hand No. 17 Gulf Coast its first loss in MACCC play.
