SENATOBIA – Jones is one win away from its seventh MACCC championship.
The Bobcats, ranked fourth in the NJCAA, knocked off previously-unbeaten and No. 1 ranked Northwest Mississippi 3-0 on Friday afternoon to keep their own perfect season alive.
Northwest (16-1) had outscored its opponents 100-1 entering Friday's match in Senatobia, but the Bobcats hung three on the Lady Rangers on their home turf.
Celine Ottah's 29th minute penalty kick gave Jones (13-0) a lead they would not relinquish.
The lead held up for the ensuing 43 minutes until the Bobcats were able to create some separation after a turnover.
Northwest lost possession just outside its box where
Abby Sheriff took it away, passed it off to
Gemma Whitchurch and then Whitchurch returned the pass to Sheriff who hammered it home for the 2-0 lead.
Whitchurch was able to book-end an impressive road win with an 88th minute goal, her team-leading 15th of the year.
Jona Hennings had a career-high nine saves for Jones to improve to 11-0, none bigger than her 39th minute save off a Mari Julia Delgado free kick to keep it a 1-0 lead.
Jones owned a 19-14 shot advantage and 4-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Bobcats can clinch the conference title at home Tuesday against third-ranked Holmes. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Ellisville.
