ELLISVILLE –
Carson Turner one-timed a rebound off the post in the 73rd minute to lift No. 5 Jones over No. 10 Northwest, 1-0, Friday night in the conference opener for both sides.
Jones improved to 4-0, 1-0 while Northwest fell to 4-1, 0-1. It was the 11th straight win over the Rangers and the Bobcats' 20th consecutive MACCC win.
Northwest controlled most of the possession in the first half and made goalkeeper
Makenna Yarrow work. She picked up four first-half saves on her way to a career-high seven on the night.
The Bobcats made halftime adjustments on their alignment and were the aggressor the final 45 minutes.
Jones, who outshot Northwest 13-4 the second half, broke through in the 73rd minute when a bending shot from
Izzie Scott clanged off the right post where Turner fired a 18-yard bullet top shelf for the goal.
It was Turner's second goal of the season and second career game-winner.
Jones makes the short trip to Poplarville on Tuesday where they'll meet the unbeaten and 16th-ranked rival Pearl River Wildcats (6-0, 1-0).
