Bobcats roll opening weekend in Knoxville, outscoring opponents 14-0

Eight different Bobcats scored over the two matches

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Izzie Scott scored four goals and Kirsty Cameron had four assists in Friday's season-opening win over Howard to set the tone for a monster weekend.

Jones, ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll, outscored Howard and No. 20 CCBC Essex by a combined score of 14-0 to start off the season 2-0.

Jones 9, Howard 0

Poppy Binding made a successful return to the pitch after an injury a year ago, scoring the Bobcats' first goal of the season just four minutes in.

Leahmae Keogh and Scott added goals in the 6th and 20th minutes to give Jones a 3-0 lead at the break.

Binding opened the scoring in the second half three minutes in to make it a 4-0 Jones lead and the rout was on.

Freshmen Riley Davis and Cory Reid Powell netted their first goals, and Scott would score the final three of the match over the last 10 minutes for a hat-trick and four-goal evening.

All three Bobcat goalkeepers saw action. Makenna Yarrow got the start and the win. Danae Fowler had two saves and Danielle Flynt played 20 minutes.

The final shot tally was 34-2 in favor of Jones.

Jones 5, CCBC Essex 0

In a rematch from last summer's NJCAA Tournament, Jones shutout the Knights for the second time in two meetings.

Gracie Gustafson scored her first career goal as a Bobcat in the 28th minute that proved to be the game-winner.

Carson Turner's goal in the 37th minute off a Keogh assist made it 2-0 at half.

Binding scored her third goal of the weekend in the 66th minute and Caragan Childs, also sidelined last year with injury, scored in the 73rd minute. Keogh capped the scoring with a 90th minute goal.

Jones returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 1 with an exhibition match vs. LSU Alexandria at 2 p.m. That match will not be live streamed and admission is free for all fans.
