Henson tosses no-hitter as No. 5 Bobcats sweep Coahoma

ELLISVILLELindsay Henson (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) tossed a five-inning, no-hitter to spark No. 5 Jones College to an 8-0 win over Coahoma in game two of a doubleheader here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
 
In game one, Karagan Howard's (Iowa, La.) two-run, walk off home run in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Bobcats a 9-0 victory.
 
Jones is now 30-7 overall and 18-2 in the MACCC. The Bobcats will host No. 1 Copiah-Lincoln in a huge 4 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.  The Wolves are currently 34-4 overall and 20-2 in conference play.
 
Jones 9, Coahoma 0 (5 inn.)
 
Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian) led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple and later scored on a steal of home to make it 1-0.
 
Henson's two-run single scored Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Ala.) and Sydney Pevey (Lawrence County) to make it 3-0 in the second. Henson then scored when Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep) reached on an error. Sarah Ballard's (Purvis) single drove in Gabby Hoffman (Florence) and Lewis scored on a throwing error to make it 6-0.
 
Lewis had a sacrifice fly to right to score Pevey in the fourth to make it 7-0.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Madison Jones (South Jones) had a one-out double and Howard followed with her first Bobcat home run to end the game in five.
 
Kristen Walker (Leake Academy) went 5.0 innings and got the first win of her Bobcat career. She allowed no runs, three hits, walked none and struck out five.
 
Kyla Henderson, Ziay Graves and Jaliyah Davis singled for the Tigers. 
 
Ta'Kia Jackson went 4.1 innings and got the loss. She allowed nine runs (six earned), eight hits, walked four and struck out three. 
 
Jones 8, Coahoma 0 (5 inn.)
 
Henson was overpowering in game two.
 
She struck out 10 of the 15 outs, walked only one batter and improved her record to 6-0.
 
Henson helped herself by blasting a two-run home run in the first to give Jones a 2-0 lead. She now has eight home runs on the year.
 
In the second, Pevey reached on an error and would score when Skylar McLellan (Brandon) reached on an error. Lindsey then followed with her 13th home run of the season to put the Bobcats up 5-0.
 
In the third, Kathryn Smith (Luling, Louisiana) and Iris Farve (Clinton Christian Academy) drew walks and Mackenzie Jones (South Jones) followed with a two-run double to make it 7-0.
 
Jones added its final run in the fourth when Henson singled and later scored when Farve reached on an error.
 
Henson and Lindsey each homered and singled and Mackenzie Jones doubled and singled for the Bobcats.
 
Kaliyah Stephens pitched all 4.0 innings and got the loss. She allowed eight runs (four earned), six hits, walked five and had no strikeouts.
 
Coahoma goes to North Arkansas on Tuesday and Itawamba on Wednesday.
