ELLISVILLE – The 14th-ranked Jones College Bobcats dropped their first match of the season here Wednesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Loyola-New Orleans (La.), a four-year, NAIA school, defeated Jones, 6-3.
The Bobcats are now 15-1, while the Wolf Pack improves to 4-6.
The Bobcats won a point in No. 3 doubles when
Tanner Bevard (Sacred Heart) and
Jackson Peoples (Northwest Rankin) downed Aubin Duchier and Austin Hudson, 8-5. In No. 1 doubles, Herman Aure and Remus Hebhang-Balan beat
Tomi Nader (Argentina) and
Wallace Brewer (Germantown), 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, Theo Debackere and Diego Rodriguez Tobar edged
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) and
Trey Hilton (Pearl), 9-8.
Nader defeated Duchier in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3 and Hilton whipped Hudson in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Brewer lost 1-6, 4-6 in No. 2 singles and Bevard fell to Hebhang-Balan in No. 3 singles, 1-6, 1-6. Aure eased by Vanecek in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 and Tobar edged Peoples in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-7, 13-11.
The Bobcats resume MACCC competition with a 2 p.m. match Friday at Copiah-Lincoln. Jones will host Hinds in a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday.
The Wolfpack does not play again until March 31 vs. Tougaloo College in Montgomery, Ala
