Bobcats split a pair on Sunday with NJCAA Top 15 programs

ELLISVILLE – Welcoming a pair of NJCAA Top 15 opponents to The Bank on Sunday, Holly Craft tossed a one-hit shutout to help Jones top No. 6 Kirkwood before a run-rule loss to No. 13 Northwest Florida State to split the pair.

Jones, 14-5, had a 10-game winning streak snapped in the loss to the Raiders, an NJCAA Division I opponent.

Lauren Lindsey, the back-to-back MACCC Softball Player of the Week, was a combined 5-for-7 with four doubles, a home run and three RBIs to lead No. 5 Jones at the plate, extending her hit streak to 11 games.

Jones 6, Kirkwood 0

Craft was dominant in the circle, allowing only a single in the third inning and finishing with a season-best 11 strikeouts. Craft struck out five of the first seven batters she faced, including punching out the side in the second inning.

Lindsey's RBI-double scored Aaliyah Dixon, after a leadoff double, to give Jones a 1-0 lead in the first.

Lindsey's two-run homer and Sarah Ballard's two-run double extended the lead to 5-0 after four.

Madison Jones walked and scored off an error in the sixth to plate the final run.

A series of bad plays and free passes snowballed into a 10-run second inning for the Raiders as they cruised to their second run-rule victory of the day.

A walk, infield error, hit-by-pitch, walk and routine double play back to the circle sparked a series of plays that went against the Bobcats in the second. The Raiders proceeded to plate 10 runs on six hits and two Jones errors to put the game well out of reach.

Bobcat pitching allowed just two hits and one run outside of the one, snake-bit inning.

Carly Lewis' RBI-single in the third plated Lindsey after a two-out double.

Jones will travel to Pearl River on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
