ELLISVILLE – It was over early.
No. 9 Jones College scored 20 seconds into the match and never looked back en route to a 9-0 shellacking of Holmes here Tuesday night in an MACCC Tournament play-in game at Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Bobcats,10-3, advance to the conference tournament semifinals and will face Hinds at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the MGCCC Soccer Complex in Perkinston.
After
John Mark Rose's (Jackson Prep) opening goal, which was assisted by
Elean Fajardo (Oak Grove), the Bobcats added six more first half goals to take a 7-0 lead at intermission.
Adam Lynch (Ireland) made it 2-0 off an assist by
Chris Dempsey (Ireland) at 4:07. Moments later, Dempsey assisted Fajardo at 10:20 to make it 3-0. Fajardo scored again with Rose getting the assist at 16:20 to make it 4-0.
At 26:46, Lynch found the back of the net again with Dempsey getting another assist to make it 5-0. Dempsey then got his fourth assist of the night by connecting with
Leighton Jameson (Northern Ireland). Dempsey scored at 38:12 with
Garrett Bell IV (Sacred Heart) getting the assist to put the Bobcats up 7-0.
Kelton Keene (West Jones) scored on a header off an Alexander Pocasangre (Pearl) assist at 68:50 to make it 8-0.
Isaiah Wilson (Germantown) ended the scoring via another Pocasangre assist at 89:29.
Peyton Wilbanks (Madison Central) played the first half in goal and had one save.
Garrett Wise (Madison Central) played the final 45 minutes and did not face a shot on goal.
The Bobcats dominated statistically, taking 29 shots (16 on goal), compared to eight shots by the Bulldogs (one shot on goal).
Jones had seven corner kicks and Holmes had three. The Bobcats were whistled for 14 fouls and the Bulldogs committed eight.
Holmes ends the season at 5-8.
