Bobcats sweep Baton Rouge, look to keep momentum going in Fulton

ELLISVILLE – The 7th-ranked Jones Bobcats closed out the regular season in style on Saturday afternoon, run-ruling Baton Rouge twice in three hours by 8-0 and 12-2 finals.

Jones (35-7) extended its winning streak to 13 games and will roll into next week's MACCC Tournament in Fulton one of the hottest teams in the league.

Eleven Bobcats combined for 20 runs on 22 hits, with Tyesha Cole, Lauren Lindsey, Bobbie Amond, Tia'Rain Saunders and Meagan Wynne all leaving the yard.

Game 1 – Jones 8, Baton Rouge 0

Nia Luckett continued her strong play in the circle, allowing just a single in the fourth, and Lindsey and Wynne hit two-run home runs to help lift Jones to a 65-minute run-rule.

Chantel Schurr started a four-run bottom of the fourth with a leadoff single and advanced to second on an error in center. Cole followed two batters later with a two-run single, Luckett tripled and Lindsey grounded out to make it 8-0.

Kristen Walker, making her Bobcat debut, tossed a scoreless fifth with a strikeout.

Game 2 – Jones 12, Baton Rouge 2

Eight Bobcats combined for 14 hits, with Tia'Rain Saunders going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and both Cole and Amond finishing with three RBIs.

Leading 2-1 after one, Shay Angelle and Cole exchanged home runs in the second to make it a 4-1 Bobcat lead after two.

Amond ripped a three-run line drive shot over the fence in center to extend the Jones lead to 7-1 in the third.

Saunders helped close the books with a three-run shot of her own in the fourth.

Sterling James worked around two solo home runs, scattering four hits with three strikeouts and two walks to improve to 13-1 on the year.

No. 7 Jones will face Northeast in the opening game of the MACCC Tournament on Wednesday, May 5 in Fulton.
