ELLISVILLE – Shutout at Pearl River 17 days ago, No. 10 Jones got its revenge in front of a packed crowd Thursday night in a 2-0 win to stay atop the south division standings.
Jones won its fifth straight match since losing in Poplarville, outscoring the opposition 19-1 with four clean sheets.
Poppy Binding broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute, making a pair of nice moves, crossing over a defender and finishing with her left foot.
Kendyl Terrell setup the goal with a nice flip into the box.
Less than a minute later, Erin Clifford had a chance to tie for Pearl River, firing a free kick from 40 yards out that
Danae Fowler skied straight up for to make a big save. Nearly the same shot beat Jones a few weeks ago in Poplarville. Not this time.
Two huge saves by Kylie Dailey on Terrell and Binding kept it a 1-0 match in the 52nd minute.
Jones would find an insurance goal in the 69th minute from
Anna Crane, using a touch pass from
Keona Crowell off a cross to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Fowler kept the clean sheet intact with four key saves over the final six minutes.
Both teams finished with 12 shots apiece in a match that felt controlled by Jones from the get-go.
The Bobcats will play their next two matches on the road at Gulf Coast (May 4) and Southwest Mississippi (May 7).
