ELLISVILLE – The 14th-ranked Jones College Bobcats lost 8-1 to No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast here Monday afternoon in the final regular season match of the season.
Jones, 16-3, will now compete in the Region 23 Tournament April 15-17 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The Bobcats will play in the semifinals at 2 p.m. on Friday vs. an undetermined opponent.
Gulf Coast, 18-2, will play in the region semifinals on Friday vs.an undetermined opponent.
The top three teams in the regional advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament May 10-14 in Plano, Texas.
Jones' only win came in No. 1 singles when
Gaspar Meda (Argentina) defeated Seth Macute, 7-6 (3), 6-0.
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) lost 3-6, 4-6 to Pedro Molero in No. 2 singles.
Daniel Panzica (Brookhaven) fell to 7-6, 6-7, 7-10 to Wesley Fontaine in No. 3 singles.
Trey Hilton (Pearl) lost to Clay Fudge in No. 4 singles, 5-7, 3-6. In No. 5 singles,
Greyson Parman (Warren Central) lost 6-4, 1-6, 2-10.
Ryan Myers (Madison Central) fell to Jackson Ward in No. 6 singles, 2-6, 3-6.
In No. 1 doubles, Meda and Panzica lost 1-8 to Macute and Fontaine. Hilton and Vanecek fell 4-8 to Molero and Fudge in No. 2 doubles.
Braxton Wallis (Brookhaven) and
John Jabour (Warren Central) fell 5-8 to Anderson Dulaney and Ward in No. 3 doubles.
