ELLISVILLE – The 2nd-ranked Jones College Bobcats won a pair of games here Monday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
The Bobcats used a four-run fifth inning to subdue No. 9 Des Moines Area (Iowa), 7-6. Jones then got a one-hitter from
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) and defeated Hinds, 8-0 in five innings.
Jones, 11-1, will open MACCC play on Saturday at Itawamba. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. and the contests will air on LetsGoICCTV.com.
Game 1 – Jones 7, No. 9 Des Moines Area 6
Jones trailed the Lady Bears 4-2 entering the bottom of the fifth.
Tyesha Cole (Philadelphia) led off the inning with a line drive home run to left to make it 4-3.
Skylar McLellan (Brandon) came through with a two-out, two-run pinch hit single to put Jones up 5-4.
Mycah Hall (Nettleton) followed with an RBI double to make it 6-4.

Kristian Edwards (Laurel) to make it 7-4.
DMACC got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh before
Sterling James (DeSoto Central) got the final two outs to notch her second save of the year.
Starting pitcher
Breley Boykin (Jackson Prep) went 6.1 innings and got the win, upping her record to 6-0. She allowed six earned runs, eight hits, walked three and struck out seven.
Cole homered, tripled, singled and had two RBIs. Hall tripled, doubled and had two RBIs.
Alexis Lander started for the Lady Bears and took the loss. She went 4.1 innings, giving up five runs (four earned), seven hits, walked three and struck out one.
Sophie Maras had a 3-run home run in the second inning for DMACC.
Game 2 – Jones 8, Hinds 0 (5)
Luckett notched seven strikeouts and walked two as she improved to 1-1. She allowed just a double by Natalie Park in the fourth inning.
Cole drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a fielder's choice in the third inning.
Lauren Pope's (Pearl) RBI single in the third made it 3-0.
In the fifth inning, Hall's triple to center scored
Mackenzie Jones (South Jones) and
Kat Wallace's (Brookhaven) infield hit scored Hall to make it 5-0.
The Bobcats ended the game in the fifth when
Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central) and Jones slugged solo home runs and Hall later scored on a wild pitch.
Jones had a home run and two singles for the Bobcats. Saunders homered and singled, Edwards doubled and singled with Pope adding two singles.
Starter Ashley Lopez went 4.0 innings for Hinds, allowed four earned runs, nine hits and was tagged with the loss.
