ELLISVILLE – Playing in front of the home crowd for a final time in 2021, second-ranked Jones used five goals from four different players to shutout Meridian 5-0 and extend its long winning streak.
Jones, now 11-1, 9-0 south, has won 11 straight matches since a season-opening, 2-1 loss to East Central. Meridian fell to 7-7-1, 5-3-1 in division play.
Kendyl Terrell's team-leading 12th goal of the year in the 26th minute was all the offense JC needed.
Acacia Rodriguez played a nice ball up to
Zylah Mulligan who crossed it in to find Terell for the double-assisted goal.
Bekah Baugh scored back-to-back goals in the 47th and 65th minutes to extend the lead to 3-0.
Kaylee Chennault netted her third goal of the season in the 72nd minute and
Izzie Scott her fourth after taking a rebound off the post and finishing to make the final 5-0.
Jones outshot Meridian 31-1, including 18-1 on net.
Danae Fowler and
Makenna Yarrow combined in net for the Bobcats' ninth shutout in a dozen matches.
The Bobcats close out the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Co-Lin. Jones has clinched the south's No. 1 seed in the MACCC playoffs and will play a TBD opponent on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Freedom Ridge Park.
