Long Ball Lifts Jones over EMCC in MACJC-opener

ELLISVILLE – Jones used the long ball to run-rule EMCC twice in the conference opener for both teams Friday night, with seven Bobcats combining for 10 home runs in the 14-6 and 15-4 victories.

Jones improved to 12-2 overall, 2-0 in the MACJC while EMCC fell to 4-8 and 0-2.

The Bobcats will return home Saturday to host No. 19 Lansing at 2 and 4 p.m.

Jones 14, EMCC 6 (5 inn.)

After falling behind 1-0, the Bobcats used a six-run bottom of the first, highlighted by home runs from Kristian Edwards, Lauren Pope and Meagan Wynne, to take a 6-1 lead and never looked back.

LP Trammell smashed a three-run homer in the second to increase the JC lead to 10-1.

EMCC, however, clawed back with five runs over the third and fourth to pull within 10-6. Madelyn Wilkes homered and Mackenzie Dolan added a two-run double.

Jones would score the final four runs in the fifth on a pair of wild pitches, a solo home run from Raylen Blackwell and RBI-single from Kayla Collins to end the game.

Seven Bobcats aided an 11-hit attack.

Sterling James tossed the final 2.1 innings in relief of Lauren Stringer to earn the win, scattering three runs, three hits and two strikeouts.

Jones 15, EMCC 4 (5 inn.)

Edwards homered to lead off the game for Jones for a second straight game and the rout was on in Game 2.

Jones led 8-0 after two and rode the arm of McKenna Polk in the circle to a five-inning win.

Eight different Bobcats combined for 13 hits and 12 RBIs, with Tyesha Cole, Collins, Trammell and Wynne all hitting home runs.

Polk improved to 5-2 in the circle, scattering five hits, three earned runs, four strikeouts and a walk.
