Bobcats to play for second straight MACJC title

RAYMOND – The Jones College Bobcats are playing for another championship.

Chris Dempsey's (Belfast, Ireland) brilliant goal at 42:07 stood up as Jones defeated host Hinds 1-0 here Monday night in the MACJC Tournament semifinals at Tom Shepherd Field.

Reggie Pech (Clarkdale) passed the ball to Dempsey, who placed the ball into the upper corner of the goal.

Callum Harley (Whitney Bay, England) played the entire game in goal and was credited with 10 saves in the tightly contested match.

The Bobcats, winners for eight straight games, will face Mississippi Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. Tuesday as they try to defend their 2018 conference title. MGCCC eliminated Pearl River 1-0 in Monday's other semifinal game.

Hinds had 17 shots and 10 shots on goal. The Bobcats had nine shots and six shots on goal. The Eagles had six corner kicks and Jones had three. Hinds was charged with 13 fouls and Jones had 10.

Tuesday's championship game will air on HindsCCSports.net.

The winner of Tuesday's game will travel to No. 5 LSU Eunice for the Region 23 title at 7 p.m. on Friday.
