ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats led  2-0 at halftime en route to a 5-2 victory over East Central in the season opener here Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Bobcats' opening goal came when Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) wrapped the ball around the wall on a free kick at 8:43. Jones made it 2-0 at 36:41 when Dalton Morgan (South Jones) rolled the ball in from just in front of the goal with Davis Gibson (Sacred Heart) getting the assist.
Carlile's goal at 57:39 off a Larry Gibson (Sacred Heart) assist made it 3-0.
ECCC scored at 59:07 when Braylen Greer scored off a Joel Hill assist. The Warriors made it 3-2 at 73:48 when Vitor Gomes scored.
But the Bobcats came back to add to the lead when Cris Rodrigo (Northwest Rankin) knocked in a long shot at 78:51. Rodrigo was credited with the game's final goal on a corner kick at 86:58.
Callum Harley (Whitley Bay, England) was in goal for most of the game for Jones.
The Bobcats, 1-0, host Northwest at 7 p.m. Monday.
The Warriors, 0-1, visit Pearl River on Tuesday.
