ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats had plenty of incentive heading into Thursday night's MACJC quarterfinal matchup vs. Holmes.
The Bobcats knew they would return to Bobcat Soccer Field this weekend if they were able to win.
Jones took care of business with Holmes as they posted an impressive 7-0 victory.
The Bobcats, the South Division No. 2 team, will now host North Division champion Itawamba at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the MACJC Tournament semifinals.
Jones is now 12-2 on the season.
Glenn Waters (Dungarvan, Ireland) got the Bobcats off to a good start with a penalty kick at 11:20. Moments later,
Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) scored at 14:34 on a
Lucas Middleton (Hemsworth, England) assist to put Jones up 2-0. That would be the score at halftime.
Jones put the pressure on quickly in the second half.
Cris Rodrigo's (Northwest Rankin) free kick at 49:45 made it 3-0.
Nick Gibson (Sacred Heart) then scored with Waters getting the assist at 53:09. Rodrigo scored again at 55:21 to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead.
Dalton Morgan (South Jones) assisted Carlile at 59:58.
Steven Caston (Laurel) ended the scoring at 77:03 on an assist by
Reggi Pech (Clarkdale).
Callum Harley (Whitley Bay, England) played the entire game in goal for the Bobcats and recorded his fourth shutout in six games.
Holmes ends the season at 4-10-1.
