ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats celebrated "Sophomore Night" with a 6-0 shutout over Meridian Community College here on a rainy Monday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Bobcats are 11-2 overall and end up tied for first place in the division with Pearl River at 6-2. PRCC earns the tiebreaker after sweeping Jones.
The Bobcats, the No. 2 team from the South, will host Holmes, the No. 3 team from the North, in a tournament quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. Thursday. The winner advances to the overall MACJC Tournament, which will be played at Jones on Saturday and Sunday.
Jones led 1-0 at the break before exploding for five goals in the second half.
Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) scored the first of his three goals off a
Davis Gibson (Sacred Heart) assist at 6:33.
In the second half,
Justis Casey (Greene County) scored and Carlile got the assist at 55:01. Moments later, Carlile scored on a
Kreider Henderson (North Pike) assist at 59:41 to make it 3-0. Casey scored with Carlile getting the assist at 73:21 and
Glenn Waters (Dungarvan, Ireland) assisted Carlile at 79:31 to make it 5-0.
Jordan Cochran's (Greene County) goal at 87:33 on a Gibson assist ended the scoring.
Callum Harley (Whitley Bay, England) earned the shutout in goal for the Bobcats.
Meridian ends the season at 2-14, 0-8.
