Southwest gets 5-0 shutout over Bobcats

SUMMIT – Southwest Mississippi earned a 5-0 shutout over the Jones County Junior College Bobcats here Tuesday afternoon at Bear Soccer Field.
JCJC falls to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the MACJC South Division.
Southwest improves to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in division play.
Southwest scored twice in the first half.
Santiago Martinez scored at 20:04 off an assist by Ty Ware to make it 1-0. Maximilliano Gigli then scored on a header off an assist by Martinez at 38:21 to give Southwest a 2-0 lead.
The Bears went up 3-0 when Ware scored an unassisted goal at 58:30. They increased the lead to 4-0 when Patrick Larsen scored on a penalty kick at 60:51. Southwest's final goal came at 79:22 when P.J. Irwin scored on a header off an assist by Nate Bond.
Hudson Matheny (Starkville) was in goal for JCJC.
Conner Smothers earned the shutout in goal for Southwest.
The Bobcats resume division play with a 7 p.m. home contest vs. Meridian on Friday.
The Bears host Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday afternoon.
