ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College opened the season on a successful note here Wednesday evening at Bobcat Soccer Field.
Davis Gibson (Sacred Heart) scored off a cross by
Yates Rodney (Sumrall) at the 74:56 mark. Just 32 seconds later at 75:28, officials halted the game because of lightning.
After waiting for just over an hour, the contest was called because of heavy rains and severe lightning.
The result was a 1-0 victory for the Bobcats over Andrew College (Georgia).

Hudson Matheny (Starkville) was in goal for JCJC.
JCJC is now 1-0 on the season and will travel to defending MACJC/Region 23 champion Hinds for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday.
The Bobcats open MACJC South Division play at home at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1 against Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Andrew, 0-1, hosts Concordia on Sunday and travels to Holmes on Aug. 30.
