POPLARVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory over Pearl River here Tuesday night at Wildcat Soccer Field.
It was JCJC's third straight victory and it was the first time for the Bobcats to beat Pearl River since 2009.
JCJC's
Kieran Robins (Norwich, England) gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. PRCC's T.J. Gines tied it in the 37
th minute with Mark Johnson and Anthony Hertzke being credited on the assist.
The Bobcats took the lead for good in the 53
rd minute when
Joseph Todd (Belfast, Northern Ireland) scored. JCJC got some insurance in the 84
th minute when
Vitaly Drake (Oak Grove) scored.
Darren Ross (Belfast, Northern Ireland) was in goal for JCJC and had seven saves.
Each team had 14 shots and eight shots on goal. Pearl River had five corner kicks and JCJC had four.
The Bobcats are now 3-3 overall and 3-2 in division play.
Pearl River is 2-4 overall, 2-3 in the division.
The JCJC men's team meets Andrew College (Georgia) at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston.
Pearl River visits East Central Friday.
