ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College came close to knocking off unbeaten Pearl River here Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
But the Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie with just over three minutes to play with two goals and defeated the Bobcats, 3-1.
JCJC is now 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the MACJC South Division. Pearl River improves to 6-0 and 4-0.
The game was scoreless throughout the first half.
Pearl River finally broke through at 64:25 when Parker Rose scored.
But the Bobcats would tie the game at 70:57 when Florence sophomore
Jake Holland scored off an assist by Mobile, Alabama, sophomore
Dung Vu.
The Wildcats would take a 2-1 lead at 86:23 when Rose assisted Mack Ladner. Seconds later, Suleiman Carr then scored an unassisted goal at 86:42 for PRCC to account for the final margin.
JCJC will play at William Carey University in a 7 p.m. scrimmage on Tuesday. The annual JCJC Alumni Game will be at 2 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Bobcat Soccer Field.
Pearl River travels to Itawamba on Sept. 27.
