ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College here Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Bobcats had battled back from a quick 2-0 deficit to knot the game at 2-2 early in the second half.
But MGCCC's Gio Freitas scored on a penalty kick at 70:50 to break the tie and eventually give the Bulldogs the win.
JCJC, which saw a three-game winning streak stopped, is now 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the MACJC South Division. The Bulldogs are now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
MGCCC took a 1-0 lead on a Juan Salazar goal at 1:20 and they made it 2-0 at 7:14 on a James Beattie goal.
The Bobcats got on the board at 42:45 when
Jared Brister scored off an assist by
Moses Muhubao.
JCJC tied the game early in the second half at 46:48 when
Austin Herrington scored off a Brister assist.
JCJC goes to Copiah-Lincoln for a 6:30 p.m. match on Tuesday. MGCCC entertains Meridian on Tuesday.
