SENATOBIA – The 2015 season is over for the Jones County Junior College men's soccer team.
Northwest Mississippi held off a furious late JCJC rally and edged the Bobcats 3-2 here Thursday afternoon in the MACJC/Region 23 quarterfinals at Ranger Soccer Field.
The Rangers were up 3-0 when the Bobcats got a goal from
Dung Vu at 86:49. Just over a minute and a half later,
Rodolfo Lopez scored for the Bobcats to make it 3-2.
However, JCJC would not get another opportunity and the Rangers advanced in tournament play.
The Bobcats end the season at 7-7-1.
Northwest, 12-6-1, will now play Pearl River at 4 p.m. Friday in a semifinal matchup at Tom Shepherd Field on the Hinds Community College campus in Raymond.
The Rangers got on the board quickly on Thursday when Jaylen Harvey scored off an assist by Armando Barron at 3:09.
Northwest scored early in the second half when Karim Mueller made a goal from 30 yards away at 47:54.
The final goal came at 59:49 when Lance Crabtree scored from about 40 yards away off an assist by Jonathan Felix.
Braxton Taylor was in goal for the Bobcats and was credited with two saves.
The Rangers took 12 shots, while the Bobcats had 10. Both teams had five shots on goal.
