Diego Leal is this week’s Bobcat Athlete of the Week.
Leal won the MACJC/Region 23 No. 2 singles crown at the tournament at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Leal, a freshman from Bucaramanga, Colombia, beat Meridian’s Breno Goncalves, 6-1, 7-6 in the championship match. He whipped Itawamba’s Brian Donnieal in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-0. He downed Northwest’s Zak Harbin in the quarterfinals, 7-5, 6-1.
Leal was the top seed going into the tournament.
