Softball player Lauren Holifield is this week's Bobcat Women's Athlete of the Week.
She has also been named the MACJC and NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week.
Holifield, a sophomore from New Hope, had a phenomenal opening week as the top-ranked Lady Bobcats went 6-0.Â
She was 13-of-20 at the plate for a .650 batting average. She belted six home runs, four doubles and drove in 14 runs. She had a 1.750 slugging percentage.
Holifield had two home runs in the season-opening, 13-0 win over Marion Military Institute (Alabama) on Feb. 9 and two more in an 11-2 win over Pensacola State College (Florida) on Feb. 14. She also had a homer in another 11-2 Lady Bobcat win over PSC. Her final roundtripper of the week came in a 4-0 victory at Jeff Davis Community College (Alabama) on Feb. 15.
The Columbus native was also the winning pitcher in JCJC’s 2-0 win over Marion Military on Feb. 9. She went three innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two.
